The airport's railway station has trains that go to the city centre and other destinations. Silchar Airport may be reached by train from the city. There are just a few airports in India with runways as narrow or shorter than this current one, making it one of India's most inaccessible. The runway enlargement was originally planned as a two-step process. From its present length of 1,580 meters, Phase 2 will expand the runway to 5,800 meters, after Phase 1 increases the runway to 3,200 meters. The state government will receive a land request from AAI when suitable land becomes available, and the extension will be completed when suitable land becomes available. They have stated their willingness to pay market value for any acquired and redeveloped property. The runway expansion has been put on hold indefinitely due to difficulties acquiring more land. The Assam State Transport Corporation (ASTC) runs Volvo air-conditioned bus services to Silchar airport from Rangirkhari Point and the Inter-State Bus Terminus (ISBT). The ISBT has buses to several northeastern cities. In addition to Hailakandi and Karimganj, taxis are available at the airport to go to these destinations.
